Getting into these courses depends on the entry requirements and availability or enrolment places. Some of these places are covered by the government who have paid for part of it. Others spots in a course may be available if you are prepared to pay the full cost.
Government loans and subsidised places
A Commonwealth supported place (CSP) is a subsidised enrolment place. CSPs are available at all public universities (and some private higher education providers in national priority areas like nursing and education).
The Australian Government pays part of the fees for the place directly to the university. The subsidy amount is not a loan and students do not have to pay the subsidy amount back. However, students are required to contribute towards their study and they pay the remainder of the fee known as the ‘student contribution amount’ for each unit they are enrolled in. Universities set their own student contribution amounts.
Scholarships
One way to help pay your course fees is to apply for a scholarship. A variety of scholarships and awards are available for students to gain financial help for their tertiary studies. A local organisation that may be useful to you is Western Chances who help local students.
